ISLAMABAD: The State of Qatar hosted the 6th Session of the Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers (ICLM) in Doha on October 15-16, 2025.
The conference, themed “Local Experiences, Global Achievements: Success Stories from the Islamic World,” brought together labour ministers and representatives from Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states to discuss strategies for developing labour markets and strengthening social protection systems.
The conference highlighted the need for OIC countries to invest in upskilling their national workforces and strengthening technical education to address labour market challenges.
Participants emphasized the importance of promoting decent work, achieving sustainable growth, and exchanging best practices in increasing productive employment opportunities.
The conference also addressed the impact of artificial intelligence on the labour market, with a focus on harnessing its opportunities while mitigating potential negative effects.
The OIC Labour Centre, established in Baku, Azerbaijan, was presented as a key initiative to promote cooperation and address labour market challenges among member states.
The conference called on member states to provide technical and financial support to the OIC Labour Centre to enhance its role in promoting labour and social protection.
Participants urged OIC countries to focus on developing education and training programs that meet the evolving demands of the labour market.
The conference emphasized the need for collective action to address unemployment, promote decent work, and support economic development in OIC member states.
