US, Pakistan celebrate new USEFP facility aimed at expanding exchanges

ISLAMABAD: The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) inaugurates a new state-of-the-art headquarters building, an official statement said, a development hailed as a cornerstone for deepening educational and cultural ties between Pakistan and the United States.

At the opening ceremony on Tuesday, US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker called the moment “historic,” saying: “Today … after almost four years of enormous effort, we are proud to open the new US Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) building.”

The building will house a public-facing “Lincoln Corner,” Education USA advising services, an auditorium for lectures and events, and serve as a hub for exchange-program support, underlining the “shared commitment … to education, innovation, and building a stronger future together.”

“The new USEFP building is more than a building; it is a symbol of the deep commitment both the United States and Pakistan have to education, innovation, and building a stronger future together,” Baker added.

In 2022–23, there were 10,164 Pakistani students enrolled in US universities, according to official data. A 16% increase from the previous year.

USEFP noted that over 75 years, more than 9,000 Pakistani students and scholars have studied in the United States, while some 900 Americans have come to Pakistan under exchange programs.

The new building aims to support and grow these numbers, advancing bilateral educational ties at a time of rising interest in US higher education among Pakistani youth.
